Curious about Mahjong? Pull up a chair.
Join The Mahjong Mingle at Northville’s new Cozy Collective for a relaxed evening of learning American Mahjong from the very beginning. We’ll gather around the table, get acquainted with the tiles and discover what makes this game such a fun way to spend time with friends.
This one-evening introduction is designed for complete beginners. We’ll walk through the basics together, with hands-on practice and plenty of time for questions. Come on your own or bring a friend. Everyone starts in the same place, and we’ll help you feel comfortable at the table.

Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve never played Mahjong. Is this class for me?
Absolutely. This class starts from scratch, so you don’t need to know the tiles, the rules, or how to read the card.
Is this a one-night class?
Yes. This is a single, three-hour introduction to American Mahjong.
Will I know how to play after one class?
You’ll be introduced to the fundamentals and have a chance to put them into practice. American Mahjong has a lot to learn, and most people benefit from additional instruction and guided play as they build confidence.
Do I need to bring a Mahjong set or playing card?
No. Premium mahjong tiles with coordinating accessories will be provided along with cards for use during class.
What is the National Mah Jongg League playing card?
It’s the annual card that shows the winning hands used in American Mahjong. We’ll introduce you to its layout and explain how to start reading it during class.
Can I come alone?
Of course. We’ll make sure you have a place at a welcoming table. Coming on your own is a great way to meet other people who are learning, too.
How many people play at a table?
A standard Mahjong game has four players. We’ll arrange seating for instruction and practice during the class.
